SPA Course - Petrol Retail The SPA Petrol Retail course is aimed at those who control work on forecourts and work in the petrol retail sector. This is a 2-day course, with Day 1 the “Core Day” and Day 2 focused specifically on the petrol retail sector
Course Detail
The first Core Day of training covers the basics of good health and safety practices.
The second day is focused on the specific when working in the petrol retail sector and controlling work on forecourts.
*Certain existing H&S Qualifications will allow a delegate to be exempt from the day 1 "Core" requirement - see more details below
Course Content:
SPA Core Day (Day 1)
This day covers general health and safety applicable to many industries:
- Organising for Safety: Covers responsibilities and risk assessment.
- The Workplace: General safety, behavioural safety, fire safety, working at height, asbestos, and confined spaces.
- Tools, Plant & Machinery: Includes safe use of hand-held tools and electrical safety.
- Health: Covers hygiene, hazardous substances, occupational diseases, and manual handling.
- Procedures: Safe systems of work, first aid, and road safety.
- The Environment: Focuses on waste, pollution, and employer/employee responsibilities
SPA Petrol Retail Day (Day 2)
- This day focuses on the unique risks of a petrol filling station:
- Fuel Hazards: Properties of fuels and associated hazards.
- DSEAR & Zone Classification: Understanding Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations and hazardous area zoning.
- Delivery Hazards: Risks associated with fuel deliveries.
- Vapour Recovery: Safety implications of vapour recovery systems.
- Restricted & Hazardous Areas: Identifying these on a forecourt.
- Customer & Contractor Hazards: Specific risks from customers and contractors on-site.
- Controlling Work on a Forecourt: Involves communication, safety method statements, clearance certificates, permits to work, and task classification.
Qualifications that enable exemption from the Core Day element are below (Please note any qualification must have been obtained in classroom - ELEARNING IS NOT ACCEPTED BU UKPIA):
- CCNSG Passport to Safety
- IOSH Working Safely, IOSH Managing Safely or IOSH Supervising Safely
- NEBOSH Certificate or NEBOSH Diploma
- CITB SSSTS, CITB SMSTS, or CITB Site Safety for Shopfitters and Interior Contractors
- CIEH Basic Health and Safety (replaced by Level 2)
- FÁS Safe Pass
- ADT H&S module
- Rentokill SHE Training module
*For those without an expiry date they must have been obtained within the last 3 years.
If you qualify for Core Day Exemption, you only need to attend (DAY 2 - Petrol Retail). You must provide evidence of exemption (i.e. copy course certificate) prior to booking or attending the course.
