Who is the course for?

This course is for supervisors and slinger/signallers who will be supervising crane lifting operations on site. It is accredited by the Construction Plant Competence Scheme (CPCS).

The aim and objective of this course is to provide the candidate with the underpinning knowledge, to be able to understand their roles and responsibilities when supervising lifting operations, as per current legislation

Course Content Includes:

  • Legislation, Regulations & Codes of Practice
  • Duties & responsibilities of personnel involved
  • Maintenance, inspections examinations and testing requirements
  • Different types of lifting accessories
  • Slinging techniques
  • Weights & Centres of Gravity in relation to method statement
  • Communication of the lift plan
  • Liaison with the Appointed Person
  • Hazards & Unsafe Lifting Practices
  • Controlling lifting operations using the lift plan

Completion of the course:

Candidates will take a verbal theory test, and complete a practical assessment. Successful candidates will receive a 2 Year CPCS Category A62 Red Trained Operator License

Those with 2-3 years or more experience can progress straight on with the NVQ Level 4 Supervising Lifting Operations assessment to achieve the 5 Year CPCS Blue Competent Operator card

Prerequisites

You must have a good understanding and knowledge of current Health & Safety issues.

The CITB Supervisors Health & Safety touch screen test must be current and in date. (Completed within the last 24 months)
